Matt Badiali – Global Energy Outlook: Did The DeepSeek News Just Put A Top In Energy?
Matt Badiali, Editor of The New Energy Investor published under Mangrove Investor, joins us to discuss how the DeepSeek news impacts the energy outlook, including clean energy initiatives.
The conversation delves into the market’s reaction to news from DeepSeek, a Chinese AI app, and assesses the implications for long-term energy demand despite short-term investor reactions. We explore the transition from coal to natural gas and renewable energy sources amidst policy shifts, emphasizing the critical role of nuclear power in meeting future energy needs.
The episode underscores the persistent global demand for electricity and evaluates how policy changes, such as those implemented by Trump’s administration on wind and solar, might influence the energy landscape. Concluding with insights into the energy market’s trajectory, the discussion also highlights the potential for natural gas and nuclear energy to address rising power demands.

Quite a bit of silver, but likely not much gold. Gold really moves being a monetary metal and chaos hedge (although there is some used in higher end electronics and computing… not enough to move the needle in pricing though).
>> Copper is the industrial metal that is poised to benefit the most from a large AI infrastructure buildout over the next 3-5 years, but then obviously uranium and nat gas as power sources stand to benefit in a big way. To a lessor effect commodities like silver, tin, silica, and rare earths will be important to the AI market.
I am not so sure copper will be needed as much as a lot of people are thinking. The Chinese are challenging a lot of conventional ideas that come out of The West and finding ways to solve problems with a smaller resource footprint. One of the reasons electric cars are dead is because they require too much copper infrastructure with today’s technology but what we are seeing are disruptive changes happening almost on a weekly basis with technology improvements and it is all designed to do more with less. When it comes to technology the game is never over you can’t design an AI center and start the buildout without constant change, something that takes billions of dollars on a drawing board might never see the light of day. We now live in a disruptive world on all levels. DT
Electric cars are dead. 🤣🤣🤣 ok DT. You’re right if you say it enough times.
25% of New Car Sales in China Were 100% Electric in 2024
Global EV sales predicted to top 20 million this year
Yup. That sounds like it’s dead.
And pay attention to the hybrid market. It’s going up year over year as well
EV, hybrid sales reached a record 20% of U.S. vehicle sales in 2024
In China if you don’t buy an electric vehicle your social credit score goes down 10 points, and you can’t leave the country. As far as The American consumer is concerned hybrid’s make more sense but now that Trump has taken away the green agenda hybrid’s may still be an alternative, but it could be something like hydrogen/gas. Technology is moving so fast that we will see surprises but whether you are up to change that also remains to be seen. LOL! DT👀🤣
The vast majority of electric power plants in China are coal fired.
Ergo, electric cars in China are coal powered.
How China’s DeepSeek Outsmarted America
By Stu Woo and Raffaele Huang – Jan. 28, 2025
“Conventional thinking held that developing leading AI required loads of expensive, cutting-edge computer chips—and that Chinese companies would have trouble competing because they couldn’t get those chips. DeepSeek defied those predictions with a resourcefulness that led to a $1 trillion bloodbath on Wall Street and is spurring Silicon Valley to rethink its approach.”
“The Chinese company has also delivered a wake-up call to Washington, according to President Trump, whose administration is set to decide in the coming months what to do about Biden-era policies limiting China’s access to the best chips for AI.”

NatGas : Diamond Bottom (Turn Test)
Nice pop in Discovery Silver on news.
How much gold and silver will be used for AI infrastructure?
