Fed Minutes, The Goverment Shutdown, and The End Of This Market Rally

Cory
January 10, 2019

Chris Temple joins me to breakdown the Fed minutes that were released yesterday. Now very much on pause this will be an important year for the future of Fed direction. Also the government shutdown is fully underway but has not had a major impact of the markets. Overall the strategy for this year will be one of active and value investing.

Speaking of value, the TSX-V is holding up well today…

Has anyone else experienced missing links. The link I was posting comments on yesterday is on my iPhone but when I got home last night and went on my iPad that link didn’t exist. Isn’t the first time that a link that was on my iPhone wasn’t on my iPad.

      Jan 10, 2019 10:17 AM

Sounds like Tim Cook took a bite out of your Apple. 😉

      Jan 11, 2019 11:30 AM

Hey Wolfster, I don;t see anything in the moderated section of the comments so not sure how to help you out with that… Please let me know if it keeps happening and I will get our webmaster to look into it.

It happens…..once or twice a day to me.
But I post a lot and usually try to include a link for information/educational purposes, rather than simply an opinion.

      Jan 10, 2019 10:15 AM

Thanks for replying CFS. I have found it frustrating. Reading my iPhone is getting harder each year and can’t find conversations I’m having on the iPad. Yes the things that frustrated us these days are trivial compared to others struggles. 🙄

        Jan 11, 2019 11:31 AM

I’m not an Apple user but things seem to work well for me on the Android phone… Hopefully it will get sorted for you guys 🙂

Thanks Cory. I should probably clarify by links I mean the kereport links. On my iPad I only have Jeff’s link from Wednesday that had 4 comments in its section but the link that was Chris’s that had 104 comments or so doesn’t even exist. Yet it’s there on my iPhone

China ‘ship killer’ DF-26 missiles activated: ‘sink two carriers’ threat

Might be an idea to end this trade war with China.
China has already warned Trump to keep his nose outta Taiwan.

Do americans ever hear about China taking the americans in the chinese waters seriously?

This trade war is not a good idea.

      b,
If you claim “Trade War not a good idea”, perhaps you could suggest another alternative to stop theft of US copyrights, patents and intellectual property.

Do you think China should be allowed easily to take over Taiwan? What about the Taiwanese people?

Do you think, by building a few islands on submerged reefs, and claiming 200 mile limits around those “islands”, China should be permitted to control most of South Asian trade routes? (And have the ability to alter trade between India and Pakistan and the U.S.)?

        Jan 10, 2019 10:28 PM

        Spot on target, CFS!

The U.S. needs to learn how to protect its info.

Its not up to the U.S. to determine if Taiwan is part of China or not.

Yes, China should control the trade routes in that area of the world, let them pay for it too.

After trade wars come shooting wars, the zionist neocons want to control the world, the U.S. is a happy tool of those neocon zionist and thats what all the confrontation is about.

        Basic, yankee go home.

I can give you the same stuff cfs, should the states decide when isis is dead in Syria, should the states decide where the oil/gas pipelines run thru europe, should the states decide which self defense systems india uses.

The U.S. has us on a knifes edge with their bs, we are closer to total annihilation of our species now than we were with the cuban missile crises…..are those islands that are no where near the U.S. really american business?

The locals too stupid to work things out?

You afraid china doesnt want to do business? lol

Sorry cfs and chartster….yankee go home and stay there.

        Jan 10, 2019 10:29 PM

But the U.S. does exactly the same thing globally with it’s use of sanctions and its military. If you don’t want China to do such things then the U.S. shouldn’t either.

The fight on “shut-down” is pure politics.
Behind the scene the Democrats are doing everything they can to thwart Trump.
Trump still has over 400 nominations (almost half) stalled for two years.
(Obama had about 10 blocked, and over 900 confirmed compared with Trump’s 500 odd confirmed and the rest (over 400) blocked. Filibusters against Trump are running an order of magnitude higher than against Obama.
Congress is so divided, I amazed Trump has managed to get as much done as he has.
Democrat policy is stall, oppose, stall, lie, oppose….
I have never witnessed the like before in 50+ years of watching politics.

Jeff Berwick was recently pretty happy to be a buyer of Bitcoin but his fans should think twice before following his lead…
    http://schrts.co/zjXkeh

      Jan 10, 2019 10:33 PM

I’ll give Jeff Berwick credit with first pointing out Bitcoin so that it came to my attention back in 2010 or 2011. He rode it all the way up, and advised at the beginning of 2018 to take profits and start considering rotating into other asset classes & currencies, especially the PMs.

I haven’t kept up with his latest thoughts. Is he advocating to start buying again?
Maybe he feels we’re in a good place to add to cryptos as most have pulled back 80-90%. Based on that chart you posted it looks like there could still be more weakness ahead.

Regardless, people that followed Jeff’s lead on positioning from 2010-2017 did pretty good, and he was a seller near the top and felt it had gone parabolic and gotten ahead of itself for the time being, felt there was more opportunity in resource stocks now. Overall he did pretty good on his calls, but nobody’s gets it right all the time.

I think the metals and miners have topped and could be set for a very sharp decline over the next 3 weeks. Again, I have been expecting that they would retest their 100 DMAs. I have been saying that we should get an intermediate cycle low in late January and I am sticking by that. Plus, $HUI and GDX left behind black candles on the daily chart on December 4th. I think $Hui will retest the 140-145 zone. That will be the last great buying opportunity IMO.

I have been surprised at how well GDX has hung up over the 200 dma, but I think it’s out of gas. Could I be wrong? Of course. I would like nothing more than to see a rocket shot up tomorrow and next week, but I don’t see it happening. So I hope that I am wrong.

    Jan 10, 2019 10:22 PM

GDX daily stochs are set to decline.

Buy the hell out of GDX if it gets back to $19.

      Jan 11, 2019 11:33 AM

Good thoughts Spanky! It’s not out of the questions for gold and GDX to pullback for a little bit. Let’s just hope they can find support in the rising channel… or better yet break higher 😉

    Jan 10, 2019 10:29 PM

Again, I hope that I am wrong and that we continue to grind higher before some sort of blow off peak.

    Jan 10, 2019 10:01 PM

Yen is also set to come all the way back down, IMO, during gold’s decline. I’ll bet they announce a trade deal really soon and that should send yen crashing and the USD soaring.

This has never happened to me because I am the only one here who has never owned a cell phone or portable computer. My old phone and iMac have land lines. I never use wi-fi or microwave ovens which cause cancer. Beware!

      Jan 10, 2019 10:03 PM

BB, bought a “tad” of NGD again today—will continue to purchase as it pulls back. Do you think we control enough shares to do a take over or demand a board position?

        Jan 10, 2019 10:01 PM

Doc, glad to hear you bought more NGD. I don’t think we need to change the board now that Renaud Adams is in charge. Maybe we should take over IMBBY or BTI instead? What do you think of them?

      CFS

Incomplete knowledge is a dangerous thing.
I bet you cannot actually find a peer-reviewed scientific paper that proves cancer from a cell-phone or microwave oven at levels of power currently commonly in use.

(Note, I did not say you could not find possible cancer produced at power levels approx 1,000 times higher.)
The probability is dependent on powerlevel/field strength and duration of exposure.
At typically measured levels close to, but outside microwave ovens operating at 2.45 GHz would need an estimated 1 million hours of exposure to give a chance of causing cancer, so unless you are sitting on a continuously running microwave for a few years, you really don’t have a chance. (Or stated another way, you have a grater chance of getting cancer from exposure to sun through clothing.
(The potential from exposure from being close to a cell phone tower is different.
      (Notice, tower….not cell phone itself.)

Have you heard about Global Warming recently?

That’s because we may actually need to put CO2 and methane into the atmosphere to warming things up. (We are approaching a new grand Solar Minimum in just a few years time.)

        Jan 10, 2019 10:08 PM

I do not believe in global warming. I like CO2 as it makes plants grow. I do not feel deprived by avoiding cell phones, microwaves, tap water, GMO’s, vaccines, and cigarettes. I like to sunbathe and never wear toxic sunscreen.
