Bernie de Groot – Active Portfolio Management For Resource Stocks, A Focus On Copper
I am very happy to introduce a new guest, Bernie de Groot, Senior Investment Advisor at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management (USA). I have followed Bernie for a number of years and have been impressed with his thoughts on the markets and the companies he recommends to clients.
In his first appearance on the show I have Bernie provide a background on his experience and how he approaches investing in resource stocks. Bernie explains why he likes copper and select copper stocks moving forward. We breakdown the fundamentals and his view on tier 1 assets, major miners and the exploration companies.
If you would like to contact Bernie to learn more about how he helps his clients you can email him at bdegroot@cgf.com. You can also email me at Fleck@kereport.com if you want me to put you in touch.
Nice new guest. What was the Mongolian copper stock he mentioned. Too hard to understand the exact name.
My best guess was “Oyu Tolgoi” but have no clue.

Lake,….. you should have been viewing the ORPHANT SECTION…. for the last 20 yrs… and it would not be a surprise as to how corrupt the “system “”..is and has been…
We do not need to read another book ….. but, I am sure it is a good one…
I was writing Congress and Regulators 20 years ago. Since that didn’t work and corruption got worse, I tried informing “investors” that they should complain to their politicians and stop electing criminals. Since that didn’t work and there appears to be complete apathy and acceptance of criminal control, I have over time, tried to cut back on posting. I have hoped that through posting on this site, as other well viewed sites, there would be some strangers that may be informed, somewhere, sometime.
With the Save Canadian Mining initiative and the recent case on Naked Shorting coming from the Southern District of New York, I feel finally there is some movement from those that can have actual impact. I also saw where a couple of Congressman are trying to get Gensler fired. I tried to get him not appointed. So some progress…but the Naked Short issue is big for miners. Hopefully Eric Sprott and others can make a difference. In the meantime, I will assume this board has heard enough.
I would just like to see the intervention stop, but it doesn’t seem possible with The Regulators and Fed being part of the problem. A good first step would be elimination of Citizens United and reinstating Glass Steagall. Neither going to happen until politicians not on Corporate Payrolls get elected.
(Added: substitute “criminal” where I use “politician” as this is not about politics but crime.)
(second edit: I wrote my Senator yesterday and gave him a game plan for dealing with corruption. I expect a reply that he agrees that everyone should not walk on the grass near government buildings.)
Thanks for the comment…….
Maybe when you get the congressman’s response….. You could post his reply…..
We could see if, he goes along with your game plan….
You could post it over in the ORPHAN SECTION…. where it might get more traction… JMO
My Senator is Tuberville.
Goliath busted out of its chains today, I bought a lot of Goliath a couple of years ago for 14 cents, I wish I had all of those shares now. That is why I like the micro mini stocks, if you hit it right nothing comes close to the gains that can be made.
May favorite now is Cosigo Resources, when the market wakes up to Cosigo it will be just like Goliath only this time I am holding the whole enchilada. LOL! DT
Goliath keeps having good drills. I guess I should thank Ex for his postings last week that got me back in for the 3rd time. I always owe him a craft beer for his wisdom.
Dolly Varden and Goliath’s properties are joined at the hip. I own both and DV has been finding gold, but it is as you know a silver play. I just like the fact that with two great companies drilling excellent results it will draw investors gaze to both properties. Investors love area plays. Buy right and sit tight and let the acquirers battle it out, if you were a major wouldn’t you want both. I like to think so. DT
+2
Hi Lakedweller2 – I just saw these comments from you and DT regarding Goliath, and yeah it’s been one of the few earlier stage exploration gold stocks in my portfolio in the 2nd half of 2023 through present.
I was interested in it for over a year, but it really was sitting down with Roger at Beaver Creek in September that had me go out and get positioned immediately the day after that event. I talked to them about the potential in the drill core before assays came back, and learned more about the prior drilling in the Surebet and Bonanza Shear zones where they had 120 more drill holes to release at the time, and that they had that deeper drillhole into the new area of the volcanics, now called the Golden Gate zone, before that hole had assays come back. That got my attention more than anything else at Beaver Creek.
Also I had watched a video about the Cambrian Ice Fields targets to the north, where the glaciers are receding and exposing brand new outcrops that got my wheels turning. Those are some of the areas where they’ve been releasing rock chip samples and channel cuts recently, with very high grades of both gold and copper.
I talked to Roger and a few Goliath geos at both the MIF and VRIC and remain excited for the drill season in 2024, and I’ll be having Roger back on the show next week to discuss the Cambrian Ice Fields surface exploration results, as well as the new 4th zone at the main Project called Jackpot (which is also down in the volcanics like the the Golden Gate zone). Stay tuned…
Sorry for the delayed response but I was at the VRIC event and related events, from 7:30am to 9:30 pm on Monday, and didn’t get home until Tuesday morning. I’ve been trying to catch up on communication after being gone 4.5 days.
BTW – yes, one day let’s have that beer together. 🙂
I bought some more DV last week, it was a toss-up between DV and GOT, because I like them both equally. DT
I probably will regret it but I sold my DV this month to get a tax loss for 2024 and rolled it into District in anticipation of Sweden approving Uranium mining. I have a couple more weeks before I can start adding back DV.
DT, yeah I still really like DV too, and spent some time with Shawn at their VRIC booth, and caught his Dolly Varden presentation from the stage. That recent 95 meter drillhole was a real zinger…
I think what they showed the market in 2022 and 2023 at Torbrit/Kitsol, Wolf, and Homestake that all their areas are open to expansion big time, and it is still possible that they all connect into one larger system. This should be another big year for them.
I’m going to get Shawn back on the KER soon for a DV update.
Thanks for the updates. It will be good to have some upward movement eventually so We can get back to moving money where there is stock movement. (Used some form of “move” 3 times in one sentence.)
Added: I saw where Turkey voted for Sweden’s entry into NATO yesterday. I would think that would be a positive toward Sweden’s approval of uranium mining in view of issues with Russia and the European Union.
OOTB:
When I sent the email to Tuberville, I requested that he support action concerning the following items: Legislation ending Citizens United, Reenact Glass Steagall, Request the Justice Department form a task force investigating The Fed”s expenditures of US Treasury Funds and the Exchange Stabilization’s source of funding as well as expenditures. In addition, the task force could also look into market intervention. I think a few other similar requests.
After less than a day, I received the following response:
“Thank you for contacting me regarding your views on this issue. I welcome the opportunity to hear the views of fellow Alabamians and address their concerns.
Serving as your senator is the greatest honor of my life, and I strive every day to represent your views on the federal level. My goal as your senator is to stand up for hardworking Americans and respond to the concerns of everyone who call the great state of Alabama home.”
(Then 3 more paragraphs of BS having nothing to do with any issue I raised.)
My response was: “Thank you for the response to my email and I know exactly where you stand in response to corruption and efforts to correct it”
THANKS LAKE……
……….. I think they are full of BS…. , if, they have been there any length of time ,… they all fall for the MONEY….
There is no way many of them are doing anything for WE THE PEOPLE….
Thanks to Citizens United, they self identify. Citizens United was designed to give Corporations control of the political system and has worked.
Same account performance, just another day lower. (However, Pleas go to Save Canadian Mining for interviews concerning the extent of Naked Shorting that is never covered. It is a very serious problem that is wide spread).
