I listened to the first minute or two of seg 1, Trump and Churchill one of the greatest leaders of the century.
The jury may still be out on Trump but anyone that believes Churchill was a “great” leader really has missed some significant events.
No offence but for example, he cost the British their empire.
He was completely outmaneuvered by FDR and cost the british the world reserve currency.
Pretty significant events to be calling someone a “great” leader. 😉

The book is no longer in print, it sells for hundreds of dollars now if you can find one.

You know Churchill did spend time in London during German bombings.
Sure, he had a deep bunker as did much of the population in central London (The tube system). And luckily because of radar on the south coast of England there were about 20 minutes of warning that a raid was coming. England had coastal warning defenses of one sort or another with beacons on towers along the south coast for over 400 years, including spotters for planes flying low under the radar, although at the eastern end, because of the height of the cliffs, flying under the radar was virtually impossible.

Yes, he was a descendant of Wellington, Duke of Marlborough and came from a family of inherited wealth Yes, he was a spoiled brat of a child raised in the the “correct” English public schools, but the author of the Mises piece completely misses the fact that he had an American mother, who had significant influence on him and his views. The Indians had a problem with over-population and needing monsoons for food production.
If I remember correctly (I have not looked up the dates and numbers recently)
But India had famines.
The worst one, in 1866 or 1867 caused the starvation of up to 10 million.
The next, just before 1900 caused about a million deaths due to starvation.
Te third one during WWII was caused not by one, but two monsoon failures and killed about 3 million Indians due to starvation. After a century of an occasional monsoon failure India had learned to store food for the event of monsoon failure, but the first failure wiped out food stocks and then the second failure killed 3 million due to lack of food.
To blame Churchill, as having caused the death of 4 million Indians is neither true nor fair. Yes England was getting food from its colonies of Australia and New Zealand which could have been diverted. BUT England was fighting a war and already suffering food losses from Canada and the US due to U-boat action.
The English people were already heavily rationed for most goods including food.
They simply did not have any slack to divert ships to India. It was NOT AN INTENTIONAL ACT to starve 4 million Indians, and should not he characterized as a decision made by Churchill. (And just for the record it was closer to 3 million, even an exaggeration there.)

The other detail that seems to have been missed by the two discussions about Churchill was the connection between the British monarchy and Germany. After the Napoleonic wars of the early nineteenth century, the British monarchy had always had a close affinity with Germany. (Queen Victoria married a German.) The British people were much more favorably disposed to Germans than the French. Despite the First World War
that attitude continued during the period between WWI and WWII.
(Hence the talk of various members of royalty being pro-Hitler….they were.)
That was the problem with Chamberlain. (Old school, prepared to take the word of Hitler for “Peace in our Time”.) This was why Churchill, with a military background, was important for holding the line and for the Allies to win WWII. Churchill was not pro-Russian, but recognized that an eastern front was necessary to keep Germany from quick victory over Great Britain, giving time to get America to enter the war on Britain’s side.
