Dennis……ICEBERG LETTUCE…..has no redeeming value,or nutiant value, therefore you are correct in your example of iceberg is like fiat……great essay professor osu….try ROMAIN…next….Roman times salad……a circus in every bowl…..
“No redeeming value” now there is an expression derived at a bank tellers window.
It was first spoken by a teller to the disillusionment of the presenter of the irredeemable paper.
Another way the teller could have letdown the bearer of the script would have been to say “Sorry about your Luck!”
Jerry,
You do not need lettuce at all but most version do have lettuce and for some reason frozen peas.
Check the picture of this version out:

Salad does not need to be a side dish!
Dennis……could you please send me copy of your receipe,,,on …..”fiat flatbread”
and strawberry short of cash cake……thanks…..your..” student chef in waiting”
Traditional Fiat Flatbread Recipe
Ingredients:
Bankers
Politicians (I felt it would be redundant to list corrupt politicians)
Gullible citizenry
Method:
1. Invest profits from traditional banking operation to corrupt enough politicians to assure control of the jurisdictions money supply.
2. Cause an edict and/or legislation to be passed that places you in control of the issuance of the medium of exchange.
3. Cause an edict and/or legislation to be passed that creates tender law.
4. Create a Central Bank
5. Cause an edict and/or legislation to be passed to cause the income of the gullible citizenry to be taxed so that they are mere slaves.
Bake at 350 for one century.
Great analogy, Dennis M!
And yes, “if only that saying was true”!

I do not know the source from which the good Dr. made his conclusion that Adam Lanza was in fact medicated as he indicated. I have SUSPECTED that he was medicated from Day 1.
What I find odd is the suppression of the toxicology report.
If he was not so medicated the finding would have been broadcast loudly.
We do not even know if he had a Doctor.
It does not take 6 weeks to return a toxicology report.
Someone knows the answer but is not saying.
Remember how long it took them to doctor some Hawaiian certificate?
Thanks impeach,
Another interesting point for all to consider.

Impeach…….remember, they had to find a typewriter…..when, they ask obama if he knew anything about typewriters,,,he said they did not have typewriter, in Kenya, and his birthcertificate in Kenya, was hand written..
Ho, ho, and ho The Tall!
Big Al
Very interesting point Dennis M!
Thank you.
This is certainly an interesting subject isn’t it?
Big Al
Thanks Terry,
This was an interesting read.
The doctor implied that the cause of violent behavior can result from mind altering drugs. That is interesting as I never thought that to be true, but I am now thinking more about it.
It would be very interesting to see a detailed study on this subject. I will do more reading on this subject.
Thank you,
Big Al
Al, another excellent show. I am looking forward to reading Doug Casey’s new book.
Thanks Rob,
It is a fun read!
By the way, credit has to also be given to Louis James. He is definitely no slouch!

Post election year gold price increase coming. Miners are undervalued and I know most of the big ones are also cutting the fat in their companies, for lack of better terms, and reducing their staff and making the company leaner and more profitable. Just like Blackberry did when they were 7.00/shr.
in short very good thing coming this year fir the miners.
GLTA I hope you all make a boatload this year!
I hope that you do too, Tom!

Sorry…Just to add my short term pick…NES.V
Goodluck!
For times when irrational exuberance sets in, I’ve saved this YouTube of Danielle Park’s presentation at Cambridge House Jan 2013.
She’s “dynamite” and I think a re-listen every full moon is warranted -full moon tonight Jan 26.

Movie of the Week……….
What does My Three Sons, mining, Joan of Arc, Frank Sinatra, charity, hope and inspiration in otherwise trying times have in common? All the bases Al likes to hit?
Well Dennis M.’s Movie of the week streams on Netflix…….a story of a Pennsylvania mining town….a struggling actress…a promoter of all things false(we don’t know any of them do we?) ……mortality……ethics……the power of dark….the victory of good……. from 1948….. Fred MacMurray..Frank Sinatra… a fill in for Ingrid Bergman who plays a fill in for Joan of Arc. Some shots filmed in a little Eastern PA coal town of Glen Lyon.
These towns were once challenged by tight fisted owner’s and company stores….now they are destroyed by government edicts making their resource uneconomic.
Miracle of the Bells (1948) – You cannot find a good review except from me.
An interesting scene has a Producer Mr. Harris firing a hard to work with foreign actress who in a tirade tears apart America….the Director severs the ties that bind him by saying…”If she does not like this country (USA) then I do not want to work for her!”
An old movie such as this demonstrates how much things have changed. Unfortunately the change has been not for the better. A movie not on every many’s “A list”. Shot back from in the day when movies were 2 hours long without a lot of gratuitous sex and violence. For whatever reason I liked this movie…maybe it has to do with me being able to hear the church bells from St. Joan of Arc.

For whatever reason I thought some here would enjoy this throw back diversion.

While you can put on your show what you want I thought there was no place for debate on guns on your show.
But since you brought it up I feel really embarrassed for you all. You can’t control your finances. You can’t regulate your financial industry and you can’t keep law and order to the extent that the most vulnerable are not safe.
The whole notion of the 2nd amendment comes from a fragmented bygone era. Then it was understandable why people thought as they did. But i think the US has moved on from that.
I find it strange that when it suits how people come out and say what a great country the US is – the land of the free – but they just don’t trust the very system they believe in. Why because they need guns to protect themselves against the tyranny of Governments; the very Governments the land of the free voted for. I think there’s a contradiction in there somewhere or do people really think there will be a Arab (US) spring type uprising necessary in the future.
Sure have a gun in your house to protect yourself but all these high powered, high capacity arms is hard to justify.
How long before all those retired horizontally challenged cops in the thousands of schools start to become bored and complacent There is a lot of intelligence to fight out there and anyone who is determined will work it out.
The only way is to get the guns off the streets is to have strict controls and regulation.
Over to the ‘straw man’ now for comments
Cheers
TonyW
TonyW,
You do not die in a car accident from excessive speed.
It is the differential in speed……the sudden stop that kills you.
A highway loaded with traffic all traveling 85 MPH is more safe than a lightly traveled highway with both slow and fast traffic. It is the difference that makes danger.
Violence occurs more often when a bully is more powerful than the target.
Sometimes the bully is a government.
It should be known the second amendment was about peace through strength.
Let the public and the government travel at the same speed and we will all have a nice Sunday ride. Let one side get a little Willy Ayers thing going and………………..?
Tony W how fast do you drive?
Dennis
I hear what you are saying but your comments doesn’t mention one important thing – human nature and behaviour.
Sure you can set the speed limit at 85 for all (or whatever) but someone will want to do 95 (or 75 for that matter).
Cheers
TonyW
Tony……………
I am OK with me having guns and you having none.
The inverse of the above will not happen!
Dear Al and All,
I went onto Frank Holmes’ US Global Invesators’ website and listened to his 2013 More Sunshine, Less Stormy Wesather outlook presentation. Fascinating, well worth a listen, with lots of slides.

Not an ad! I don’t work for them. I thought I would take a look after hearing this kereport weekend show.
By the way, Al, this weekend show is a fantastic one. Keep up the great work. You are an ace!
This Week’s Monetary Mayhem Movie of the Week
Empire of Silver……a little escapism which illustrates that China is sending the message to the masses to buy Silver. If you are fluent mandarin you do not need to read the subtitles. It is a good read! Streams on Netlfix…below is a link to the beginning:
Have you ever had a Seven Layer Salad?
The salad in the clear dish starting with a foundation of iceberg lettuce topped by layer upon layer of salad fare from there……..it looks so pretty in the center of the buffet you almost hate to be the first to disrupt the aesthetic.
Maybe I think about economics too much but last night I was asked to make my version of the Seven Layer Salad and I began to think of our monetary system.
Instead of standard salad ingredients layered in the most attractive manner limited by only the chef’s creativity our economy is layer upon layer of debt.
The last ingredient of the salad preparation is sugar. I do not allow my wife see me add the confection….it is a secret ingredient unseen through the transparent bowl. Out of sight out of mind I think. “A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down.”
Our economy started on solid ground. The lettuce of our economy was gold. We have since layered upon layer of debt and leverage to spice up the economy to make it taste and look good.
Credit Default Swaps are the sugar in our economy that makes the whole mess of other ingredients disappear.
There is an old saying “what you do not know won’t hurt you.” If only that saying was true.
