Brien Lundin joins me today to share his thoughts on the inflation data from this week. PPI and CPI have been running over the Fed’s 2% target level for years. That might force the Fed to ramp up rate hikes but they have said they are ok with being behind the curve. We also touch on gold and copper and their inability to bounce.

Indonesia’s government would become the majority owner of the giant Grasberg copper and gold mine in the country under non-binding agreements reached with mining giants Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (NYSE: FCX) and Rio Tinto, the companies announced Thursday.
Indonesian state-owned PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) would pay $3.85 billion under the deal, Rio Tinto and Freeport said.
Rio Tinto said it would get $3.5 billion for its entire interest in Grasberg. Freeport said it would receive $350 million.

I do no longer understand the American justice system or politicians.
Lisa Page first ignored a subpoena to testify to Congress 7 months ago. Now she has refused to appear again.
How come nothing happens?
If I as a normal citizen, if tried that, I would be in jail.
Strzok openly, provably, lies to Congress……nothing happens.
Perhaps treason may be a high crime, difficult to prove, but clear sedition should be no problem.
If I had emailed similar statements, I would expect a knock on my front door.
Now we have strange requests coming out of the DOJ……
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has made an unusual request to the nation’s federal prosecutors: help the Department of Justice review Brett Kavanaugh‘s long paper trail of government documents.
Rosenstein made the request in an email titled, “Personal Message to U.S. Attorneys From the Deputy A.G.”
Typically, Justice Department attorneys help facilitate document production requests for Supreme Court nominees by themselves, but the use of the nation’s leading criminal prosecutors has many observers perplexed.
Christopher Hunter, a former federal prosecutor who is running for Congress as a centrist Democrat, told the Times:
It’s flat-out wrong to have career federal prosecutors engaged in a political process like the vetting of a Supreme Court nominee. It takes them away from the mission they’re supposed to be fulfilling, which is effective criminal justice enforcement.

It’s easy to see why gold bears are pressing their luck right now but they are probably going to regret it…
Let’s see if gold can finish the week above the 233 week moving average (1244.30) or, better yet, the 144 week MA (1254.61)…
Based on what? Higher interest rates and a declining commodity complex? REAL interest rates are rising. Gold is less desireable as a result.
There is no catalyst for gold now. Frankly, there wasn’t one in 2016 either, but nothing goes down in a straight line.
Based on what? Plenty. I’m not going to go into it all but will leave you with a TIPS and Gold chart that suggest at least a mean reversion for gold…

Corvus Gold Inc. has received additional results from its resource expansion drill program on the western extension of the 100-per-cent-owned Mother Lode deposit. The most recent result, hole ML18-068, the westernmost hole drilled to date, returned 109.73 metres at 1.40 grams per tonne gold from the feeder structure for the main Mother Lode deposit. This is the broadest intercept in the west zone feeder structure returned to date and continues to highlight the importance of this new area which was also intersected in earlier reported holes ML18-067 (June 13, 2018, 18.3 m at 4.02 g/t Au) and ML18-060 (May 24, 2018, 24.4 m at 3.10 g/t Au). Recently completed holes in the west zone (ML18-072 to 18-075) are pending assays and will be a priority follow-up target area in the phase 3 program.
