The New Trend – Yields and Gold Moving Up

Cory
January 26, 2018

Craig Hemke joins me to wrap up today with comments on the relationship between yields and gold moving up together. 2017 was a shift in market and early on in 2018 we are seeing a validation of this shift with yields and commodities breaking out.

    Nice interview Cory!

    The Big Picture…in the rearview mirror of hindsight

    After the ridiculous and comical events of the past 48 hours, let’s try to end the week by remaining focused upon The Big Picture…namely, that no matter what happens in the markets (that flies directly in the face of my predictions, for years) is that I’m always right, no matter what when all I have to do is spin it differently afterwards in the hope that people with short memories continue to lap it all up week after week.

    ~~~~~~~
    And btw…how’s that new website going that you started charging everyone for over a 1 1/2 years ago???
    You are a total shill and a shell of one at that. It just goe to show Turd that you’ll say anything for a measly paper $1 while talking out of your ass trying to explain things away or simply just make shit up to cover your ass.
    Do you not realize that the majority of people have figured you out at this point and tuned you out?
    I guess some people will say anything and keep passing the ass-hat around for a measly $1
    Jan 26, 2018 26:33 PM
    I won’t throw turd in the middle of the birthday cake. Good interview! Gold and the USD are in a pivotal spot. Next week should tell the story on both.
    I mentioned a few days ago that it would be nice to be able to create custom indices easily.
    ‘Pro’ subscribers at stockcharts can make 30, ‘Extra’ subscribers only a miserly 1 (one!).
      But item #9 at the following link may do the trick (I haven’t tried yet)
      http://traderhq.com/10-stock-market-games-to-improve-your-trading-skills/
      In any case, there are a lot of good trade simulators listed here.
        Jan 26, 2018 26:24 PM
        GH – #9 Yahoo is what I use to build all my customer indexes currently. It’s easy to use. That is how I know what stocks are in the green in a certain sector or subsector, because I’ve loaded every stock into them I can find and track them all with a simple mouse click.
          Jan 26, 2018 26:26 PM
          BTW – good list of trade simulators for sure. I get plenty of practice trading every week in real money, but it may be fun to use some of their funny money and set up other trades or try out different strategies that are higher risk on those to how they work out.
            Jan 26, 2018 26:45 PM
            Forget the simulators … I need links to stuff that will help me read charts like Doc!
            Thanks for all the tips, Excelsior … most appreciated!
            I do like to catch Gary Wagner on kitco from time to time, although I hadn’t considered subscribing to his service, do you?
            Sid was somebody introduce here on KE report, if I’m not mistaken, no? (I’ve looked at his stuff).
            I follow Avi Gilburt and have considered Elliotwave Trader service (a little pricey for my wife’s tastes … so haven’t done so until now).
            I am trying to understand elliotwave stuff and also follow Andrew McElroy’s commentaries on Seeking Alpha and have also been following Tony Caldero, since learning about him not too long ago: https://caldaro.wordpress.com/
            I appreciate your generosity in sharing all the wonderful information that you have acquired!
            I forgot to mention Dave Fairtex over at Peak Prosperity, who writes in their gold forum.
            Thanks for the other ideas Mike, as I’m not familiar with Dave Fairtex (is he partners with Chris M. ?) Also, not familiar with Tony Caldero or Andrew McElroy.
            No I don’t subscribe to any technical service or newsletter writer, but I try to catch most of these guy’s weekend shows, and over the years I’ve learned from each one of them. Most of my best lessons came from the school of hard knocks though.
            Mike, as far as I know, the simulators use real market data. So one can get a lot of risk-free practice to polish one’s skills, which is very valuable for a beginner. Also, as Excelsior mentions, it a useful tool for testing new approaches.
            Of course, ‘risk-free’ can never simulate the reality of trading perfectly, because one’s emotions are not involved in the same way.
    Jan 26, 2018 26:20 PM
    Gold closes the week below $1350. Another failed attempt to hold the $1360-70 region. I hate to say it but it would appear as though gold wants to correct back down next week, as if to further emphasise how strong this resistance is. Hope im wrong but I think the past is repeating again.
      Jan 26, 2018 26:32 PM
      Well, that’s why they call it resistance after all 🙂
      Cheers!
        I read Maunds piece. Another entertaining read if nothing else. He really paints a grim picture for America and I can understand why.
          Jan 27, 2018 27:06 AM
          I always take Clive’s pieces with a grain of salt, because he is emotional and sensationalize things, but believe in giving credit where credit is due. Mr Maund is an outside the box thinker, and a pretty good technician, and I’ve learned a lot by following him over the years. Like so many very bright people, he’s a bit of a character. 🙂
    There were a few times I mentioned Orezone (with 10 million ounces of Gold inferred) looks like a project that would interest a larger mid-tier in West Africa, so glad to hear that they agree towards the end.
    However, as mentioned in this interview, they are gearing up to take this into production themselves, now that they’ve cleaned up their resource modeling snafu, the capex required has been lowered substantially, and the NPV and payback period are much better.
    Orezone is a very solid West African developer and near term producer.
      For clarity, the larger resource is not part of the current mine plan as it would require a big boy to move that project forward. They are currently just planning to move forward with the smaller oxide resource as their own mine. However, the larger scalability and of their deposit and land package may be a good acquisition target for an Endeavour, or Teranga, or Semafo, or Resolute, or B2Gold, etc…. Heck there could even be a merger with another similar sized company like Hummingbird, or Roxgold.
        Excelsior,
        What is your opinion on Cobalt?,Brent Cook says he most likely will avoid adding Cobalt explorers/producers in 2018.
        “Primary cobalt producers will be on the high end of the cost curve as the vast majority of production is as a by-product from copper and nickel production. Also, we are concerned that evolving battery technology may require less cobalt. We prefer to gain exposure to the growth in electric vehicles’ production via the sector’s demand for lithium and copper”. From Kitco.
        And they just raised the the tax on Copper /Cobalt in Congo from 2 to 3.5% (will probably rise to 5%)
        https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-25/congo-raises-cobalt-copper-taxes-amid-opposition-from-miners
          Jan 27, 2018 27:46 AM
          Brent isn’t a Cobalt expert and they are jumping on the energy metals train now with Lithium (about 3 years after most of the big moves have taken place) and they like copper, due to it’s importance in wiring. If you had listened to Brent Cook and Rick Rule in 2015 and 2016 you’d have missed the entire ride up in the Lithium sector. I decided to listen to people like Joe Lowry & Chris Berry who actually were experts, and had many multi-bagger returns. (10 baggers in Galaxy and Lithium Americas).
          There are people discussing limiting the amount of Cobalt in the supply chain for batteries, but there aren’t commercially available and viable solutions yet.
          Most of the Cobalt companies are full of it and just marketing hype, just like in the Lithium or Graphite sectors, however there are real Canadian and Australian companies that offer upside to Cobalt.
          Just make sure to get Cobalt advice from people that actually understand that market instead of generalist comments that are often dismissive and wrong.
