    I have a long memory.
Ron Paul has changed his tune over the years.
I am in much more agreement with his position now stated.

Hitherto, however, his position has often been dictated by economics and cost, in my opinion; less than in doing what is best for the US (and world)

Like it or not, the U.S. became the world’s policeman (of sorts). A precipitous withdrawal from that position is difficult. The change should be done gradually, in order not to create vacuum-effect problems. I think Trump may withdraw at a good pace, but that’s yet to be demonstrated.

      Jan 20, 2018 20:22 AM

      i would agree.

      Jan 20, 2018 20:46 AM

CFS, you have a long distorted memory and your claim that RP’s “position has often been dictated by economics and cost, in my opinion; less than in doing what is best for the US (and world)” is embarrassingly ignorant.

        Jan 20, 2018 20:38 PM

Problem is more in using language like “what is best for the US”; a dozen people will have a dozen different opinions on how to define that. The beauty in Ron Paul’s message and track-record is he talks about things that are much more objective.

          Jan 20, 2018 20:05 PM

Hi Starfish, Nice to have you with us. I happen, by the way, to agree with you.

          Jan 20, 2018 20:50 PM

Exactly right, Starfish. Ron Paul’s views make a victim out no one while the same can’t be said of the views of the typical politician on the left or the so-called right.

“Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage.”
          — H. L. Mencken

            Jan 20, 2018 20:01 PM

H.L. made a very astute statement.

            Jan 20, 2018 20:14 PM

            A few more good ones:

“The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.”

“Democracy is also a form of worship. It is the worship of Jackals by Jackasses.”

“It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office.”

            — H. L. Mencken

            Jan 20, 2018 20:18 PM

            Another great quote from H.L.

        Jan 20, 2018 20:04 PM

“…less than in doing what is best for the US (and world)”

That is so ill defined and vague that it is meaningless. It is simply pablum that special interests like the neocons use to justify their crimes.

    Jan 20, 2018 20:28 AM

I don’t, however, agree completely that his opinions are dictated by economics because they are clearly dictated by the Constitution.

Our book club just finished reading “Killing England” and a fair amount was dedicated to the framers of the Constitution and the philosophy that went into it creation.

I take a lot if not most of The Bible somewhat literally; however, in the case of the Constitution, I think that there is a bit of interpretation. The Second Amendment is a good example of that. There is a big difference between muskets and protecting oneself and fully automatic weapons in the hands of unstable people`

You mean such as the vacuums we created in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, in Iraq, in Libya, in Syria, in Somalia, in the Sudan and we are trying to create in Iran? Are those the success stories you have in mind?

When in life you determine you are on the wrong course, change course.

We are clearly on the wrong course.

If America has a duty to humanity it is to return to normalcy, if there is such a word in the dictionary. America must forget about foreign politics and pursue their own private affairs of re-establishing the world of business without government interference.

Mr. T. at least in my mind your point is very well taken. I say that because leading by example is far and away the most effective way to lead. Don’t you agree?

          Jan 20, 2018 20:59 PM

America has tried it all, from The League Of Nations to political idealism. Now they must return to what had made them great. A country with untold energy, enthusiasm, and a resolve to leave The Europeans out of their policy making decisions. Europe has been very bad for the modern world, conflict and war is the legacy they have imparted to The United States. DT

      Securities and Exchange Commission

Operations at the Securities and Exchange Commission are set to be sharply curtailed.

Despite collecting fees from participants in the markets it regulates, Wall Street’s main regulator will shrink its staff to about 300 employees from almost 4,600, according to an agency plan posted in December.
The SEC plans to keep operating its Edgar corporate-filing system. But it won’t approve registrations for investment advisers, issue interpretive guidance, or review many pending applications or registrations for new financial products.
The commission will continue to deal with emergency enforcement actions like temporary restraining orders against accused market cheats. And it will continue to monitor its system for tips, complaints and referrals and operate its information systems, according to the plan.

          Jan 20, 2018 20:29 PM

I have to say Eddy that we did. We split a great boneless ribeye (32 ounces); I had a great Vodka dry martini; and a couple of glasses of marginal Cabernet. We also had a great political discuss with our friends up here.

All in all a good night.

            Jan 21, 2018 21:32 AM

Sounds like a lot of beef to carry around for a week, ….. 🙂

Hi Ebo, thanks for asking…..just went out for a light semi dining experience, at Seasons 52, had the Grilled Meat Loaf and a Guinness Stout…, not something I would typically order but, I thought it would be a good change up.
My wife is an excellent cook, so dining out is usually not a big deal, usually a let down,
when compared to her beef wellington and lobster bisque. Us retirees must conserve our resources for out trips to Florida…… 🙂

          Jan 21, 2018 21:44 AM

Dang, you boys live high on the hog…at least compare to me…all I had was a Swanson TV dinner and some ice water…

            Jan 21, 2018 21:51 AM

Talking about hogs……my daughter had truffles on her Mac and cheese,…….I told her that the truffles were most likely dug up by pigs, …needless to say, she didn’t finish the dish…. 🙂

            Why am I not surprised!

            Jan 21, 2018 21:57 AM

Seasons 52? Never heard of it. Sounds fancy and too rich for my blood. Maybe I could afford Seasons 51 And A Half. 🙂

            Jan 21, 2018 21:04 AM

talking about 51 …….that is about the amount the deep state has stolen from the people
            $51 TRILLION., ….
At that rate, we will be lucky to be eating Swanson and Water….

            Jan 21, 2018 21:56 PM

Common Eddy, you can’t be that lazy to eat Swanson’s! That action is simply impossible for a man of your intelligence!

            Jan 21, 2018 21:19 PM

Sorry about that, Mr. Big Al. I was pressed for time as I was trying to get some work done, plus I gotta admit it fit my budget, although I typically eat much healthier.

There was a write up on Ron Paul in December 2011 issue of the Atlantic.
    Here is peroration:

“But the questions remain. If Ron Paul is so libertarian that he won’t even police people who use his name, if his movement is filled with incompetents and opportunists, then what kind of a president would he make? Would he even check in to see if his ideas are being implemented? Who would he appoint to Cabinet positions?

These are all legitimate questions. And the media is going to start asking them now. If there isn’t already a “ceiling” on Ron Paul’s support, widespread knowledge of the newsletters could build one quickly.”

This article originally appeared at Business Insider, an Atlanticpartner site.

Clearly that author and his editor thought Ron Paul to be a pacifist, so I (CFS) am not alone.

      Jan 20, 2018 20:20 PM

Dr. Paul’s organization is definitely not filled with “incompetents”

        CFS
        Jan 20, 2018 20:22 PM

Atlantic is a leftwing mag. Maybe it is totally fake news. I certainly often disagree with their point of view.

      Jan 20, 2018 20:25 PM

Of course you are not alone in being duped by usual establishment mouthpieces. I’d say there are about 200 million Americans just like you and after the 2008 election, all you should have known better.

      Jan 21, 2018 21:20 PM

If your a believer in liberty you are a pacifist, which obviously RPaul is.
      Too bad it doesnt exist.

        Jan 21, 2018 21:35 PM

b, I suppose that you could look at it that way. But then again, I thought that he was pretty clear in his discussion with Daniel.

        Jan 21, 2018 21:21 PM

That’s nonsense b, and, as Al pointed out, RP was pretty clear about that.
To deny that self defense is right and moral is extremely foolish, to put it nicely.

          b
          Jan 21, 2018 21:57 PM

Liberty is not being a pacifist?

Guess I shoulda listened to it before posting.

So what is this secret report that shows a scandal worse than Watergate about? Just a load of bull from Republicans or has something really shocking been brought to light in it?

I guess we will never know as long as they keep it a secret – so much for democracy. Probably a bunch of politicians and journalists will know the dirt and 300 million other Americans will be kept in the dark?

    Jan 21, 2018 21:21 AM

    BUK:

The secret is that Hillary Clinton, the DNC and the FBI paid for a fake report on Trump and the Russians including Trump peeing on hookers in Moscow to get a wire tap from the FISA court when they know the whole document was fake. It’s been reported for months and only now are the politicians admitting it was all true.

The “Bush dirty secret” and I don’t know whether he ordered it or whether it was rogue operatives, is that WITHOUT authorization the NSA have been monitoring and storing ALL ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION OF US CITIZENS FOR YEARS,
This behavior at least dates from 911 and even the liberal courts have stated it is in violation of the 4th amendment of the Constitution.
I have been monitoring storage of the NSA for decades.
My guestimate is they have arounf 5 zettabytes capability at the moment.

To give you some idea of how big that is:
      1 zettabyte = 1000 exabytes
      1 exabyte = 1000 petabytes
      1 petabyte = 1000 terabytes
      1 terabyte = 1000 gigabytes
      1 gigabyte = 1000 megabytes
and 1 megabyte is about the size on an average novel.

And you thought blockchains took a lot of storage and electricity usage.

If they do not, Republicans will conclusively demonstrate something else.

They will prove conclusively that all of this is about them shamelessly making claims they do not actually believe, fraudulently posturing as caring about one of the most vital, fundamental issues facing the United States: how the U.S. government uses the vast surveillance powers with which it has been vested.
