My guess is that they were beings as put forth in that lecture or they never existed but were made up by the politicians in those ancient cultures in order to help control their people. Or Sitchin made this up. I think you’d have to admit that at least some of what Sitchin puts forth sounds pretty nutty.

The “gods” brought up yesterday were in connection with a theory that early human civilizations, which archaeology shows transitioned from hunter-gatherers into agrarian farmers (tending for livestock and planting crops) rather abruptly.
There are two possible causes suggested to explain this:
1. A developed earlier civilization for which traces have disappeared was moved by the flood to fertile crescent area of Nile, Euphrates, Tigris, and spread the knowledge. These were considered “gods” because of their knowledge. This is kind of supported by the Atlantis myth with the survivors becoming the “gods”.
(That the eradication of traces of that civilization no longer remains is possible because of the dramatic change in sea-level pre-to-post flood, and early humans tend to live near coasts or rivers.)
2. That early hominids were “engineered by Aliens, “gods” who visited earth from another region of space, and genetically engineered Homosapiens.
This theory is substantially supported not only by Sumarian tablet and wall texts,
but also by anthropology. There is an abrupt change in fossil bone structure and skull structure that occured some 20,000 years ago. (Don’t hold me to the exact date) Lucy, at one time supposed to be the missing link, is clearly not. Similarly there is a discontinuity in DNA, which is not explained by evolutionary theory. Basically we went from 4 living hominids, all co-existing, and suddenly homosapiens appears.

Before dismissing the aliens idea too quickly, it is necessary to explain Sumarian knowledge of the number and size of planets which are in the solar system, something which our civilization did not know until the 19th century. Indeed the Sumarians even appear to know the composition, solid, gaseous, or with water, of the planets; something that we did not know until a decade ago when we finally had a probe visit.
That’s a good answer to Mr. Big Al Korelin’s question. Until yesterday I had never heard about this with the exception of what I heard from George Noory which I dismissed as kook radio. However, Sitchin’s claim the aliens came here to mine gold sounds pretty nutty to me. But the DNA issue, the abrupt appearance of homosapiens that you mention plus other facts from that video lend support to the theory.
The bone evidence is quite extraordinary.
We are used to Darwinian theory of man evolving from apes, but if you look at bone structures, the transition is totally abrupt. No gradual transition.
While Homosapiens could interbreed with Neanderthal man (and we appear to have 4% of their DNA), Neanderthals could not speak, even though they had similar brain size.
I’m not saying they could not make monkey noises, but they had vocal modulation inabilities due to throat lower jaw structure.

The successful deciphering of a female Neanderthal genome was reported in the journal Science on February 13, 2009. The project, undertaken by scientists at the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany, aimed to verify when that failed species of humans and Homo sapiens (= Modern Man) branched off, and whether the two had ever interbred.

Al, I enjoy your audio as it is a very efficient way to say a lot more easily than typing a lot. I also found the give and take on the idea of aliens and floods etc. interesting.
What I have to say is hopefully helpful and it is my personal belief, which is also, in my estimation, very logical as well.
Everything in nature demonstrates that off-spring typically resemble the parents of that off-spring. Is it too difficult to accept the possibility that since we are children of a Heavenly Father (and I would add a Heavenly Mother as well) and (for those who accept the fact that there is a God) that our heavenly parents send their off-spring off to what would amount to be a boarding school away from home?
Thus, they give their children a mortal experience to help them to learn and to grow, with the possibility to become as they are. Much like a university class has a lab for hands on experience of the material being learned.
Part of this mortal experience is to see what we will do with the freedom to choose between options and hence, become what we are willing to become. Then there are consequences for those choices and end results, which are determined by what we finally are willing to become.
In a nutshell, I believe this process has been going on for eons of time, as we understand time, and on countless worlds. Those children of Heavenly parents will ultimately determine what level of eternal law they are willing to abide and as it says in the scriptures there are many mansions in God’s kingdom, denoting many different levels or circumstances we as eternal beings will enjoy.
Our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, make it possible for us to became as they are, but we are free to choose and we will determine our destiny. God will not prevent us or force us to become what we wish to become. Ultimately we will become all we are willing to become, so who can complain?
To me, this is abundantly just and merciful and everyone will be judged according to the knowledge they had along with what was truly in their hearts and desires with all mitigating factors considered. I believe we will be treated with great mercy as much as is possible for us to merit from a loving Heavenly Father.
Such is my point of view and to me it is so very filled with hope and positive possibilities.
