Recapping the last weeks in gold and the copper breakout
Craig Hemke, Editor of TFMetalsReport.com shares his insights on the political news moving gold. We also discuss how the metal is able to weather the storm of consistent commodity ETF outflows. We also look at the copper breakout and what that means in the big picture sense (see the copper chart below outlining the inverse head and shoulders patters).

If you look at the production data, despite increasing production of copper, silver production did not keep up.
I don’t know why. Possibly there was more zinc-copper-lead mining than silver-copper mining? with the problems in the Philippines and indonesia, I’m not sure that copper production can be increased much.
It will take 3 to 5 years to bring on South American deposits which might also have some silver or gold, as development has been waiting higher gold/silver prices.
Thanks. Some good thoughts. I wonder about Ivanhoe and their huge copper deposit in central Africa.
It’s still expanding its resource, isn’t it?
I don’t know if Friedland will develop or try to sell.
I’d rather seem him sell and move his focus over to Cordoba. (CDB)
His company is partnered with them to develop the high grade copper asset in Colombia, and while not without risk, it is FAR safer than where (IVN) is in the DRC and also in South Africa.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — EpiPen maker Mylan has finalized a $465 million government agreement settling allegations it overbilled Medicaid for its emergency allergy injectors for a decade — charges brought after rival Sanofi filed a whistleblower lawsuit and tipped off the government.
It’s the second settlement with the Department of Justice that Mylan has made since 2009 for allegedly overcharging the government for its medicines.
Mylan NV, technically based in England but with operational headquarters near Pittsburgh, became a poster child for pharmaceutical industry greed for hiking the list price of EpiPens repeatedly. It raised the price per pair from $94 in 2007 to $608 last year, while experts estimate it costs less than $10 to produce one EpiPen.
Lawsuit: Poland Spring Water Is Committing ‘Colossal Fraud’
By MARINA VILLENEUVE – Associated Press – 8 minutes ago
A lawsuit claims that Poland Spring Water is deceiving consumers with evergreen labels that say their bottle contains “100 percent natural spring water” that hails from Maine.
The class-action lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court in Connecticut claims that parent company Nestle Waters North America is bottling common groundwater that doesn’t meet the federal definition of spring water.
A Nestle Waters representative says the water meets all relevant federal and state regulations for spring water.
Nestle Waters settled a 2003 Connecticut lawsuit claiming Poland Spring’s water was not sourced deep in the Maine woods.
Nestle’s water is from public source…….only safe water is distilled….period
Another Giant step for mankind?
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Spacewalking cosmonauts set free the world’s first satellite made almost entirely with a 3-D printer on Thursday.
In total, Russians Fyodor Yurchikhin and Sergey Ryazanskiy ended up releasing five nanosatellites by hand. One by one, the tiny craft — no more than 1 to 2 feet in size — tumbled safely away from the International Space Station.
The exterior casing of the first one tossed overboard was made with a 3-D printer. So were the battery packs inside. Researchers want to see how 3-D-made parts weather the space environment.
The 3-D satellite contains regular electronics. It also holds greetings to planet Earth in a variety of languages, courtesy of students at Siberia’s Tomsk Polytechnic University, where the satellite was made.
The other satellites deployed Thursday have traditional spacecraft parts.
Each weighs just 10 to 24 pounds. They’re expected to orbit for five to six months.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A judge cleared the way Thursday for Nevada to allow more businesses to move marijuana from growers to stores in an effort to keep up with overwhelming demand since recreational pot sales began last month.
Carson City District Judge James Russell lifted an order blocking regulators from issuing pot distribution licenses to anyone other than alcohol wholesalers. Nevada’s voter-approved law is unique among pot states in providing liquor wholesalers exclusive rights to distribute marijuana unless they could not keep up with demand.
My Marijuana stocks were up today, bucking the general trend.
Incidentally, pot plants and hemp seed are on open sale in the central part of Las Ramblas in Barcelona.
Could that be the reason for the killings?

It Is Now Silver’s Time To Shine Says Analyst
Sarah Benali – Thursday August 17, 2017
“I have presently a positive view on silver, expecting prices to push gradually higher in the second half of the year,” noted Boris Mikanikrezai, precious and base metals strategist for FastMarkets, in a post late Wednesday.”
“He looked at speculative positioning in Comex silver, which he highlighted reached an extreme short level in mid-July when speculators were net short of 32 million ounces, the most bearish positioning since August 2015.”
“When speculative positioning reaches an extreme level (like in the summer of 2015 or 2017), a powerful rally tends to ensue because the speculative positioning needs to normalize,” he said. “Given the tendency of speculators to move from an extreme positioning to another, I see plenty of room for speculative buying in the coming weeks/months, which should push prices much higher.”

V:IPT – IMPACT SILVER CORP
I Bought some yesterday at .265 on the pink sheets.
Do you still like it?
Chad
Absolutely. It has grown into one of my larger Silver positions, it has great leverage to rising silver prices, and beyond their production improvements, and the rising metals prices, I’ve very interesting to see how the results come in from this year’s #Exploration campaign. They’re going after some new targets, and doing some infill drilling around some known resources.
Take a look at how it performed in 2016 for a sneak preview of how it will likely perform in the coming bull market over the next few years. 🙂
Cheers!
Interesting thoughts from Oliver over at ceo.ca today:
@Oliver – “$BHP, already the world’s second-biggest listed Copper miner, decided last year to rise its annual #exploration spending by 29%, allocating nearly all its $900 million budget to finding new copper and oil deposits. The mining giant is committed to make of those two commodities the pillars of its future growth.”

Good pics, but boring, I think people are looking for excitement. That is why a dark horse with potential like Novo fills the bill. How do you get “Rich Quick”, the crowd wants to be thrilled by betting on the undiscovered dark horse. Isn’t that always the case. DT
Cordoba has the opportunity to be a nice multi-bagger (3-5 times) from here with their high-grade Copper exploration going intercepts and Robert Friedlands involvement. That doesn’t sound too boring to me…. 😉
Tinka resources is one of the zestier Zinc exploration stories in Peru and they are continuing to hit high grade intercepts and grow the deposit larger and larger and will likely get acquired down the road or build a huge mine themselves.
Bear Creek Mining is one of the larger Silver development stories out there with great leverage to rising spot prices on their economics and share price, and a potential legal award coming later this year.
Atico, GPM, INV, and Aurania have pretty interesting exploration stories going on.
While I agree that investors love the explosive and speculative discovery stories like Novo, they are few and far between. However, I wouldn’t consider any of these companies “boring” in the slightest.
I currently have been adding to both my Cordoba and Tinka positions this week, because I find them quite prospective for far more upside action. Just my 2 cents.

Money is moving into Irving Resources after the success of Novo. Money goes to The Jockey, ( aka Bob M) if you want we can call it the Disc Jockey. What else is their to bet on? The focus of speculation has shifted from real estate to Bay Street and Wall Street has had it’s run. The Big Bull Market in commodities is getting underway but remember management is crucial. Dr. Q is the next Robert Friedland for investors. DT
Researchers want to use shrimp shells to extract uranium from the ocean

Jaguar Mining Announces Significant, High Grade Intercepts Near-Mine at Pilar and Commences Growth Exploration Drilling at Turmalina; Land Acquisition Increases Pilar Footprint by 15%
Aug. 16, 2017 /CNW/ – Jaguar Mining Inc. (TSX:JAG)
Drill hole PPL449A intercepted 10.8 g/t Au over 29.3 m (ETW 22.5 m)
Including an intercept of 17.3 g/t Au over 10.2 m (ETW 7.8 m)
Drill hole PPL449A intercepted 4.6 g/t Au over 34.2 m (ETW 26.2 m)
Drill hole PPL449A intercepted 6.6 g/t Au over 7.6 m (ETW 7.0 m)
Drill hole PPL441 intercepted 6.8 g/t Au over 29.0 m (ETW 7.2 m)
Drill hole PPL441 intercepted 5.5 g/t Au over 6.5 m (ETW 6.4 m)
Rod Lamond, President and CEO of Jaguar Mining commented: “Our employees’ tremendous efforts to reduce and control costs across the Company in the first half of 2017 has enabled the Company to continue its investment in key growth exploration projects at Pilar and Turmalina. This investment has created sustainable value as today’s drill results demonstrate the expected continuity of high grade mineralized structures well beyond current mine plans. The increased grade and thickness of mineralization at depth will build confidence in the potential for adding substantial new resources to the Pilar mine and to significantly extend its mine life. Plans for additional drilling at Pilar are being finalized. We are also optimistic that the drill program commenced at Turmalina may deliver similar exploration success when we report drill results before year-end. Moving forward, we will continue to remain disciplined in deploying capital towards the highest priority targets across all of our operating mine sites.”
Jon Hill, a senior Exploration Geologist and Jaguar´s newly appointed Senior Expert Advisor to the Management Committee commented: “Today’s results confirm the presence of increased gold mineralization and identify opportunities for the extension of additional gold mineralization and an expanded drill program at Pilar. These results are very encouraging and we are pleased to have commenced additional near-mine drilling at Turmalina targeting Orebody A and Orebody C. While growth exploration has initially been focused on consolidation of the resource base and demonstrating long-term sustainable production at both the Pilar and flagship Turmalina operations, these latest positive results now allow management to move forward confidently with aggressive, but focused and disciplined, growth exploration programs within the Company’s greater tenement portfolio.”

Awesome Intercepts….. yet the market barely notices….
If a lame moose pasture explorer put those out it would would go up 30-40% on the day. Unlike those lame explorers this company can monetize those results in their multiple mines and mills.
It is insane how this can be trading where it is putting out results like that.
Consider it money in the bank. Once Gold breaks the 1300 level and Silver is there to,smart money should start paying attention.
I know nothing more frustrating than good drill intercepts and no price appreciation in the stock.Especially when that has been the catalyst you’ve been waiting for.
Today was kinda an odd day. CEM reported more drill results, they were up this morning, sold off mid day, then closed strong. Go figure.
Agreed JohnK. When gold gets above (and stays above) $1300 and starts it’s march upwards over the next few years, JAG will benefit greatly and there aren’t many Gold producers producing 100,000 ounces at this low valuation in the universe of 50-60 other Mid-tier stocks.
Yes, it is really strange when investors climb over themselves getting into some new hot Exploration play with pretty good results like 3-5 grams per ton gold, and the stock spikes up on hopes and dreams, but the reality is that they will likely not find enough or get the capital raised to EVER become a mine.
Then in contrast a company that has operating mines/mills and the experience to take these new high grade zones and bring them into fold gets ignored on drill intercepts like this. Come on…. 10.8 g/t over nearly 30 meters (that’s pretty thick), and 17 g/t over 10 meters is so much higher grade and wider than most of these drill results you see with 1-2 meters of 6 or 7 g/t as their headlines, and yet, few are recognizing just how much mineralization they are drilling into here.

$JAG Jaguar mining used to be a $6 stock back in the last cycle and was a prominent #MidTier Gold miner, but they had higher costs during the bear market and crashed and burned and already did go bust back in 2014. They emerged out of credit protection, restructured their balance sheet, and yet they kept their 4 mines & 3 mining complexes, and their #Development & #Exploration assets as well, and started creeping back to life in 2015.
Currently they have 3 of their mines in 2 of their complexes running and they’ll do near 100,000 ounces of production, along with lowering their costs. In addition, they have a fully built and permitted mine & mill on standby in “care & maintenance” mode, a large development project, and an interesting exploration project.
They’ve completely done a #TurnAround over the last 2 years and few have paid them much attention, (except Eric #Sprott has taken a position). The large sell off recently was 1 large fund that exited a position, but because there is so little liquidity it took the share price down for no reason at all. The company released a statement that there was “no material change” and yet the shares didn’t bounce back yet.
It’s puzzling when they continue to put out better results, and keep hitting stellar results on their drilling. I follow just about every Major, Midtier, and Smaller Gold #producer and in my opinion this one of the better kept secrets, that will really surprise investors in this next metals bull cycle. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t a stellar Mid-tier, and it is in #Brazil, but even then, it’s valuation is so much lower than other Gold producing peers doing 100,000 ounce of gold per year; that when metals prices just move up into the $1300’s it will have a great impact on its margins and ultimately it’s share price.
This is back from June, and they are at a much better valuation now, but check out Page # 6 and now think about how far the share price just fell in July, and consider their current valuation:
https://www.jaguarmining.com/site/assets/files/2169/2017-06-05-jaguar.pdf
Darn it. I messed up above and corrected the wrong row. Sorry about that.
Here are the correct “corrected” recent drill results:
* Drill hole PPL449A intercepted 10.8 g/t Au over 29.3 m (ETW 22.5 m)
* Including an intercept of 17.3 g/t Au over 10.2 m (ETW 7.8 m)
Drill hole PPL449A intercepted 4.6 g/t Au over 34.2 m (ETW 26.2 m)
Drill hole PPL449A intercepted 9.0 g/t Au over 7.6 m (ETW 7.0 m)
Drill hole PPL441 intercepted 6.8 g/t Au over 29.0 m (ETW 7.2 m)
Drill hole PPL441 intercepted 5.5 g/t Au over 6.5 m (ETW 6.4 m)
https://ceo.ca/@newswire/c-o-r-r-e-c-t-i-o-n-from-source-jaguar-mining
Their market cap was $151 Million in April, and today it is $81 Million, after they improved their operating costs and increased their cash reserves, and now how hit some stellar drill results.
Does that make any sense?

Gold Futures – 20 Year Seasonality #Chart ending 12/31/2015
http://charts.equityclock.com/seasonal_charts/futures/FUTURE_GC1.PNG
While some continue to deny the tendencies of seasonality (clinging to and missing the significance of 2016’s “outlier” performance), they were also the same pundits that completely missed the move from $1204 up to $1302 today calling for more bearish moves based on how they read the tea leaves.
2017 has followed the normal season trends fairly closely and I see no reason for that to change for the balance of the year, using that concept as the general trend (in combination with TA) has been a fairly straight-forward way to position in the PM markets.

“But the province’s mined zinc production in the past years had been affected by environmental protection control measures. Zinc output from Sichuan in 2016 reached 240,000 mt, down from 326,000 mt in 2014, but higher by 27% from 2015, data from Antaike showed.”
